Ep 282: Women: Rediscovering Our Bodies with Therapist & Coach Tara Galeano. Tara is a sex therapist and sexual empowerment coach. In her book, "Rediscovering My Body" she talks about how we, as women, can show up for our desires by being more fully embodied and embrace our Goddess selves. Tara has worked with women recovering from cancer to help them return or open up their sensuality and their sexuality. In her academic life, and via her personal journey post-divorce, she was led to a new place. This stemmed from a place of crisis causing her to wonder who she is, what she is doing, and getting her thinking about what's most meaningful. We talked about how she studied the history of women in times when women had power, and how in modern times, our power as women has been dismissed because of our current patriarchal society, and also through the debacle of our sex ed, we've been colonized and cultured as the "current female". We've come to be led to the belief that our sexuality isn't as important, we are performative in sex, rather than enjoying, and that the ideal body type views we collectively tend to harbor is both harmful and oppressive (this is perpetuated by the media and advertising, as well as commonly held beliefs). We also chatted about the need to focus on simplicity in sex and recognize that also novelty is important in our sex lives as well. Tara discussed how women can have braingasms, a full body orgasm through thoughts alone. This has been documented and studied in women. Tara educated us on the release of psychedelics that happens in women during orgasms. We are lucky! She also discussed how we all as humans need to let our bodies feel and go through such things as shaking after trauma to allow our bodies to naturally process the overwhelm of the nervous system from an event (and this type of processing applies to orgasms too, we need to let go and be vulnerable, only then we will feel full pleasure). And, only then will we release the trauma and heal. We also talked about how the female body part, the clitoris, is viewed in society as a bad word rather than as a body part and how harmful this is to women. Our real body part is NOT A BAD WORD!
